The Graduate Research and Networking Development (GRAND) committee is a networking group for postgraduate students and staff in the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering.
In December they ran their first Winter Ball where they decided to raise money for the ΢ÃÜȦ Children’s Hospital. They received significant contributions from ticket sales, a raffle, and generous additional donations.
Will McMahon, PhD student and president of the GRAND committee, said: "We are thrilled with the outcome of our first winter ball. We wanted to organise a fun social event for staff and postgraduates, and we're delighted to have been able to support such a worthy cause at the same time."
The committee chose the children's hospital as the beneficiary due to its proximity to the University. "It's a local charity that many of our students and staff pass every day," Will explained. "We felt it was important to give back to our community and support the vital work they do."
The funds raised will go directly to the hospital, supporting their ongoing efforts to provide care and support to young patients and their families. GRAND hopes to make the winter ball an annual event.
